Meskanahk Ka-Nipa-Wit (Standing on The Road) Montana School


Meskanahk Ka-Nipa-Wit School is located 12km NE of Ponoka, Alberta on the Montana Cree Reserve.

We are a K4/K5 to Grade 9 school of approximately 180 students. We adhere to the Alberta Provincial Curriculum and participate in Gr. 3, 6, and 9 Achievement Exams. All our professional staff is accredited teachers with Alberta Learning.

Our school is proud to offer daily Cree instruction to all our students. As well, we offer a variety of courses including Art, Music, Computers, C.T.S. Art and Fashion, Industrial Arts, Cooking, Outdoor Education and Beauty Culture.

Students are provided with a free morning snack and hot lunch program prepared at the local Montana Band Kitchen.

Students also have the option of participating in numerous extra-curricular activities (i.e.: Beading Club, Cookie Club, Pow Wow Club, Cross Country Skiing, Grade 5/6 Sports Club, Jr. High Floor Hockey, Computer Club, Movie Club, and Cross Country Running Club).

Students have access to a daily canteen, which is stocked with a variety of snacks. All funds created by this venture and the refreshment-vending machines are returned to students in a variety of methods i.e. attendance reward trips.

We produce a monthly newsletter, which is posted on the school web page.

We have a dedicated staff, which provide excellent educational opportunities for all our students.
